Midland Center for the Arts in Midland, MI seeks artists for an indoor art fair, November 19-20, 2011. Only handmade original work, not the work of mass production studios. No work made with commercial kits, molds, patterns, plans or prefabricated pieces allowed. The Fair committee reserves the right to refuse exhibition of work not consistent with submitted images and/or these guidelines. Jewelers must be the designers and hands-on makers of their work. Purchased, facet cut gems may be used. Assembled, prefabricated jewelry is not allowed. Including a process statement would be helpful. Commercial prints of photographs using non-photographic methods such as 4-color printing or color copy machine are not allowed. $25 jury fee, add $5/add'l category. Deadline: September 9, 2011. DUE 8/31! Call for artists from 'Festival of the Arts' in Bloomfield Township

‘Festival of Arts’ Sept. 16-18, in Bloomfield, MI

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP-- Nativity Episcopal Church in Bloomfield Township,
Michigan will again host the annual “Festival of Arts” on September 16-18, 2011.

Since its start in 1956, art has been part of the mission statement at Nativity Episcopal
Church. For the “Festival of Arts” all manner of disciplines will be accepted, including
textiles, paintings, sculpture, photography, glass and pottery. Also included will be
acrylics, jewelry, watercolors, fibers, graphics and surface art. The last call for artists has been extended to August 31st .

Deborah Odette, formerly of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will
supervise display and hanging. The juried exhibition items will be for sale and the entire
presentation area will be decorated as an art gallery.

The juror will be Wayne State Professor Urban Jupina who is an accomplished fiber
artist and fine arts historian. Jupina, who is this year’s president of the Michigan
Surface Design Association recently presented in Europe at the International Triennial of
Tapestry in Lodz, Poland.

“We will have a gala opening reception on Friday, September 16, at 7:00 pm. for the
artists and presenters to mingle with the special guests,” said Henryka Olbrot. Olbrot is
president of the Lakeland Society of Artists which supports the show. She is an active art
ambassador in the Oakland, and Wayne County. The exhibition items can be for sale and
the presentation area will be decorated as an art gallery.

Special prizes will be an artist’s proof vase sculpted by local artist Patricia Auerbach and
potter Robert Nixon has done a unique clay presentation dish.

Nativity Episcopal Church began as an outreach of Christ Church Cranbrook. When the
church built its worship space in 1963, it turned to the renowned Cranbrook Academy
of Art for direction. The resulting nave is embraced by warm wood tones and artistic
surface statements. The church’s striking stained glass panels were created by Margaret
Cavanaugh in 1982.

"Ruminate Magazine Visual Art Prize" call for entries

Ruminate Magazine: Chewing on Life, Faith and Art announces a call to artists for a juried print exhibition in our Winter Issue #22, which releases mid-December and is distributed nationally. $500 cash prize and publication in Issue #22 for first place, plus publication in Issue 22 for runner-up.

The finalist juror is award-winning artist Sandra Bowden. The prize is open to all mediums and artists of all levels; no geographical restrictions. Artists must have professional quality digital images available upon request. $15 entry fee for up to 3 images that represent a larger body of work. Entry fee also includes a complimentary copy of Issue #22. Entry deadline is Friday, August 26th, 2011.

CALL TO ARTISTS: Art in the Park - Fine Art Festival (Aug.27 in Swartz Creek, MI)

What:The Swartz Creek Kiwanis Club is accepting artist applications for the 2011 Art in the Park - Fine Art Festival. The festival is August 27th, from 9am to 5pm.

Why: An outdoor event at beautiful Elms Road Park in Swartz Creek, Michigan that promotes the Fine Arts. The 2010 festival had approximately 3000 patrons attending. This is an annual event.
